Litigation Support

Hilton Sharp and Clarke, HSC, was founded in 1870 and is now the largest independent firm of chartered accountants in Brighton. Being based in Brighton, we have lower overheads than London firms and we pass that advantage on our clients through lower chargeout rates.

The litigation support department has grown significantly in the last few years and, as a result, we now have two partners dealing solely with litigation support. Between the two of us we have prepared over 1,000 expert reports and we all have court experience.

Who's Who?

Our litigation support partners introduce themselves below:

Maurice Faull MA(Cantab) FCA MAE

I have a Law degree from Cambridge University.

I trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the London office of KPMG. I returned to my home town of Brighton and joined HSC in 1987. My firm has a wide cross-section of clients, ranging from self-employed individuals to companies with turnover in excess of £20 million.

I am the Partner in charge of my firm's litigation support department, which specialises in the quantification of claims in personal injury, fatal accident and clinical negligence cases. I have provided expert reports and evidence in over 600 cases and I regularly undertake both claimant and defendant work, as well as receiving regular instructions to act as a single joint expert.

As a result of reports that I have written and evidence that I have given in other cases, I was elected as a Member of the Academy of Experts in 1992. My credentials have been checked by the Law Society as an expert witness and I am a founding member of the Expert Witness Institute.

Mark Tickel BA(Hons) FCA

I have an Economics degree from the University of Sussex.

I trained as a Chartered Accountant with Morgan Brown & Spofforth, a thirteen partner firm of Chartered Accountants in the City of London, and qualified with them in 1991. I returned to Brighton and joined Victor Boorman & Co, a four partner firm of Chartered Accountants, as their general practice manager. I remained with Victor Boorman & Co for a period of three years and joined HSC in 1996. All of these three firms have a wide cross-section of clients, ranging from self-employed individuals to companies with turnover in excess of £20 million.

I am a Partner in my firm's litigation support department, which specialises in the quantification of claims in personal injury, fatal accident and medical negligence cases. I regularly undertake both claimant and defendant work, and have been instructed to act as a single joint expert on a number of occasions.

As a result of my experience as a forensic accountant, I have been admitted as a Practising Associate of the Academy of Experts.
